Answer Michael Flanagan who lived at number four. The street had become non-existent to the world outside. They aided it by putting up a door at the entrance to keep out passers-by or officials.

4. ‘…he carried in his pocket a grenade that could blow their little world to pieces.’ Who carried what in his pocket? Why is it referred to as a grenade?

Answer Marc Girondin carried the index card with the name Green Bottle Street. It would blow up the peaceful existence of the tenants there.

Answer: When the woman looked at him, Marc took off his hat and spoke to her. He told her that he was from the city engineering department. The woman was surprised but she recovered soon enough to say they had, at last, been found.

Answer: She said that the residents of Green Bottle Street had lived in peace for several years. The landlord used to live in one of the houses too. He became so attached to all of them that he left them his property in his will.

Answer: There were six people living on that street. Apart from the old lady, Miss Trusdale, there was Miss Hunter who lived with a distant relative of hers. Then there was Mr Flanagan, Mr Jean Desselin and Mr Plonsky.

Answer: Miss Trusdale informed Marc that while Mr Plonsky and Mr Flanagan liked to travel and talk about things they saw, Miss Hunter played the piano and gave concerts to the others. As for Miss Trusdale herself, she had her flowers and books. The residents of the Green Bottle Street did not go out into the city except to buy food and clothes.
